अपनी कमेंट्री से क्रिकेट फैन्स के दिलों पर राज करने वाले पूर्व ऑस्ट्रेलियाई क्रिकेटर डीन जोन्स के निधन की खबर सुनकर खेल जगत स्तब्ध रह गया। 59 साल जोन्स वर्तमान में इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग (आईपीएल) की ब्रॉडकास्टिंग टीम के सदस्य के तौर पर मुंबई में थे, जहां जोन्स का दिल का दौरा पड़ने से निधन हो गया।

अपने समय के सबसे अच्छे वनडे क्रिकेटरों में से शुमार डीन जोन्स आईपीएल ऑफिशियल ब्रॉडकास्टर कमेंट्री पैनल का हिस्सा थे। वो अपनी कमेंटरी के लिए काफी मशहूर रहे हैं। सोशल मीडिया पर खासे एक्टिव जोन्स एक शानदार क्रिकेट एक्सपर्ट भी थे और विभिन्न मुद्दो पर अपनी राय देते रहते थे जिनके निधन पर कइर्द दिग्गज क्रिकेटरों ने दुख जताया है।
आईपीएल ऑफिशियल ब्रॉडकास्टर कमेंट्री पैनल में थे शामिल
इंटरनेशनल क्रिकेट में 1984 में डेब्यू करने वाले जोन्स ने 1994 तक 52 टेस्ट और 164 वनडे इंटरनेशनल मैच खेले। उन्होंने 52 टेस्ट मैचों में 46.55 के औसत से 11 शतक और 14 अर्द्घशतक के साथ 3,631 रन बनाए। इसके साथ 164 वनडे में 44.61 के औसत से सात शतक व 46 अर्धशतक के साथ 6,068 रन बनाए थे।

उन्होंने भारत के खिलाफ चेन्नई (तब का मद्रास) में 1986 में खेली गई 210 रन की पारी सहित टेस्ट क्रिकेट में दो दोहरे शतक भी लगाए थे। जोंस ने 30 जनवरी 1984 को एडिलेड में पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ पहला वनडे खेला और इसी साल 16 मार्च को पोर्ट ऑफ स्पेन में वेस्टइंडीज के खिलाफ पहला टेस्ट मैच खेला। उन्होंने अंतिम वनडे छह अप्रैल 1994 को दक्षिण अफ्रीका के खिलाफ खेला था। वहीं अपने लगभग आठ साल के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय टेस्ट करियर में श्रीलंका के खिलाफ सितंबर 1992 में अंतिम टेस्ट खेला था।

उनके निधन पर स्टार स्पोर्ट्स ने शोक जताया और कहा कि हम उनके परिवार के प्रति संवेदना जताते हैं और इस मुश्किल समय में उनको पूरा सहयोग करेंगे। हम जरूरी इंतजाम कर रहे है ओर इसके लिए ऑस्ट्रेलियाई उच्चायोग के संपर्क में हैं। चैनल ने ये भी कहा कि जोन्स चैंपियन कमेंटेटर थे जिनकी मौजूदगी और खेल को पेश करने का तरीका फैन्स को खुश कर देता था।
